Protected Characteristics

Valuing Everyone, Growing Together

At All Saints Church of England Primary School, our Christian vision — “Valuing Everyone, Growing Together” — shapes all that we do. We believe that every person is wonderfully made in the image of God and is deserving of love, respect, and equality. Our school is a nurturing and inclusive family where everyone can flourish and grow.

We are committed to ensuring that all members of our school community are treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and that our curriculum and school life reflect and celebrate the rich diversity of our society.

Understanding the Protected Characteristics

Under the Equality Act 2010, there are nine protected characteristics. These are:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage and civil partnership

  • Pregnancy and maternity

  • Race

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

  •

At All Saints, we teach our children about these characteristics in age-appropriate ways through our PSHE and RSHE curriculum, Collective Worship, and across the wider curriculum. Our aim is to help pupils understand and celebrate difference, challenge prejudice, and grow in compassion and respect for others.

How We Live This Out

  • We promote respect and acceptance of all people, helping children to recognise unfairness and speak up for what is right.

  • We celebrate diversity through themed weeks, assemblies, stories, and learning experiences that reflect different backgrounds, families, and beliefs.

  • We model inclusion in all areas of school life — ensuring that every pupil, regardless of need or background, feels valued, supported, and able to succeed.

  • We encourage empathy and understanding, linking our learning to our Christian values of love, respect, and forgiveness.

By living out our vision and our Christian values, we ensure that every member of our school community knows they are valued, that they belong, and that they have the confidence to be themselves and to grow in power, love, and self-discipline.
