Key Stage One

Key Stage One includes Year One and Year Two children.

The Key Stage One Team includes Mrs Hardesty, Miss Turner and Mrs Hoad, the class teachers. They are supported by Mrs Hardie, Mrs Turrill, Mrs Cottam, Miss Futter, Miss Bramhall, Mrs Rose and Miss Beesley, our Teaching Assistants.

Our Key Stage One unit is a specially designed flexible learning space which allows the children maximum opportunity to learn and develop whilst maintaining the exciting areas of development and independent learning which are so successful for younger children. The staff support the children in the transition from Foundation stage to Key Stage two with learning which gradually becomes more structured whilst retaining a strong feeling of independence and ownership in their own learning. There is a strong focus on the basic skills of Reading, Writing and Maths along with social skills, speaking and listening and Computing. We strongly encourage reading at home every day along with other tasks (set by the teachers) such as spellings, tables and investigating a topic. Basic skills are taught through a range of adult led, adult initiated and child led learning experiences linked around an exciting topic.
